What, if anything, happens when and after we die? Is there some kind of afterlife, and, if so, what is it like? Handbook to the Afterlife is an authoritative study of all the stages of the afterlife and techniques for successfully navigating them.

Handbook to the Afterlife is divided nicely into three parts, covering all aspects of life after death. Part 1 covers the many views of the afterlife; how major religions view life after death, and the theories that the science community has come up with, including perspectives from parapsychology. Also covered in this first part of the book is the "perennial philosophy"--"perennial" precisely because it shows up across cultures and across the ages with many similar features. The idea itself is fairly simple. Reality, according to the perennial philosophy, is not one-dimensional; it is not a flatland of uniform substance stretching monotonously before the eye. Rather, reality is composed of several different but continuous dimensions.

Part 2 discusses the further stages in life span development; recognizing death, separating from the body and entering the afterlife. Included in that are the many pitfalls of death, from problems adjusting, to dealing with emotional baggage that may follow you to the other side. Part 3 explains the many ways that we the living, can interact and in some cases help guide those who are having trouble crossing over. There are basic tips that can work whether or not you consider yourself to be psychic. It also talks about how you can open yourself up to contact through dreams, meditation, or through automatic writing.

The authors are Pamela Rae Heath, an M.D. and board certified anesthesiologist who continued her education with a Psy.D. in psychology, specializing in parapsychology. Jon Klimo, Ph.D., who has done extensive writing and teaching in parapsychology, consciousness studies, alternative medicine, and metaphysics.

This is an excellent book, examining the fascinating subject of the afterlife with new knowledge, clearly organized and put forth effectively with conclusions that are ultimately inspirational. The writing is conversational, pertinent and utterly readable. Highly recommended to all my mortal friends, regardless of personal beliefs.
