The Lords of Salem opens in 1692, as Salem's judicial authorities put to death a number of witches, including Margaret Morgan. As she comes to a bloody end, Morgan vows to return and avenge her death, and revenge on the descendants of those those responsible for it.
The story then moves to contemporary Salem, where rock radio DJ, Heidi Hawthorne, receives an antique box containing a vinyl record and a note saying it is from the band The Lords. The next night Heidi and her fellow DJs decide to play the record for a segment called "Smash or Trash", dubbing the band The Lords of Salem. The record has a surreal, entrancing effect on the women of Salem. What follows is a somewhat hallucinogenic trip as Heidi has a series of surreal and eerie encounters.
Rob Zombie and B. K. Evenson have created a fascinating, horrifying and uniquely creepy novel full of grisly imagery that will embed itself in the readers mind and stay there long after the book ends. The Lords of Salem offers an atmosphere that is reminiscent of the satanic horror films of the 1970's.
