Wells travels to the Moon to help free the Selenites, who have been enslaved by the Martians, before joining forces to end the Martian menace once and for all.
Kevin J. Anderson has created a fantastic old school science fiction story, with intentionally old fashioned and beautiful writing, reminiscent of past greats like Wells, Verne and Poe. This is a terrific homage to H.G. Wells as well as the late Victorian scientific and technical community whose advances laid much of the foundation of the twentieth century. The story line cleverly blends real historical figures like Huxley, Wells, and Lowell with literary characters like Griffin and Moreau. The Martian War could have been written at the turn of the last century and readers would never have known the difference. The way Anderson has managed to intertwine all Wells’ themes, ideas and characters from all across his classic work into one singular tale is astonishing.
