Named "The Sorrows," the island has a blood-drenched history that the pair feel will provide the perfect inspiration to jump-start their work and save their careers. Joining Shadeland and Blaze are Eva Rosales, Stanley's personal assistant, and Claire Harden, an aspiring composer who comes along to assist Shadeland and Blaze in their work.
Its not long after they arrive at Castle Blackwood that the group begins to suspect that they are not alone. They begin to experience terrible nightmares, waking visions and surreal experiences that quickly become far more than just inspiration for a horror movie's musical score. By the end the island is in complete turmoil, with people scrambling through deserted towers, dark forests, and hiding from both human and inhuman monsters.
The Sorrows has a Gothic setting--a desolate castle on an isolated island off the coast of California gives this story all the makings of a dark atmospheric tale. Full of rich descriptions and sensory images--sights and smells and sounds and textures that seem real and vivid. Every page contains at least one real gem--sometimes more. The result is a book that moves at a breakneck pace, filled with believable characters and a haunting and still beautiful atmosphere.
JONATHAN JANZ grew up between a dark forest and a graveyard. In a way, that explains everything. So far, he has written two novellas: Old Order and Witching Hour Theatre, several short stories, and one novel, The Sorrows. His primary interests are his wonderful wife and his three amazing children, and though he realizes that every author’s wife and children are wonderful and amazing, in this case the cliché happens to be true.
